Gusman Syittykuly Kosanov

Gusman Syittykuly Kosanov (May 25, 1935, Izatulla village, Belagash district, East Kazakhstan region, Kazakh ASSR - June 13, 1990, Almaty) - Honored Master of Sports of the USSR in track and field athletics (1964). He came from the Zhalykbas branch of the Karakesek clan of the Argyn tribe.[2] He graduated from the Kazakh State Institute of Physical Education (1965). He was a silver medalist of the 17th Olympic Games in the 4x100 meter relay race (Rome, 1960), winner of the 4x100 meter relay race of the USSR Championship (Kiev, 1960), silver medalist of the USSR Championship in the 100 meter race (Dnepropetrovsk, 1966), winner of the 4x100 meter relay race of the USSR - USA match (Kiev, 1965). He has been coaching since 1967, and in 1968 he was awarded the title of Honored Coach of Kazakhstan. He was awarded the Order of the Red Banner of Labor and medals. Gusman Kosanov recounts one of his regrets at the "Giant Games" competition between the USA and the USSR in Los Angeles. "...I couldn't find my footrest in the crowd. I had to take a guy's footrest. I hurriedly knocked and went to the guys... The unpleasant sound of a pistol rang out in my ears. I rushed forward. At that moment, the footrest came loose, then moved away, and I was 3-4 meters behind those around me. Even then, I tried to catch up. But at a distance of 100 meters, even two or three meters are not enough." This is how the deceased Gusman expresses his regret...
