Marsekov Raimzhan Marsekovich

(1877-1937)

One of the first professional Kazakh lawyers and advocates, a publicist. He graduated from the Imperial University of St. Petersburg in 1902.

That same year, Marsekov returned to his homeland and was appointed as an assistant to the trustee at the Semey district court, serving in this position until 1907. In 1907, he was appointed as an investigator at the Tyumen district court. In 1908, he moved to Omsk at the invitation of the Omsk court chamber and worked in the legal profession there until 1912. From 1902 to 1911, he was an active member of the Semey branch of the Russian Geographical Society's West Siberian department.

In 1917, he joined the "Alash" party. He was elected chairman of the Semey regional committee of Kazakhs and a member of the regional executive committee of the Provisional Government. He participated in organizing the Semey regional congress of Kazakhs, which elected delegates to the All-Russian Constituent Assembly from the "Alash" party (April-May 1917).

He was published in the newspapers "Qazaq" (1914-1916), "Saryarka" (1917-1919), and "Alash" (1917), as well as in the magazine "Aikap" (1911-1913). He was one of the founders of the "Saryarka" newspaper in Semey and one of its first editors (1917-1919).

On April 14, 1919, Marsekov was appointed acting chairman of the Semey regional land management.

During the Civil War, Marsekov was involved in organizing national regiments in the Zhetysu region to resist the Bolsheviks. After the Alashorda government was dissolved and the Kazakh autonomy was declared, he worked as an inspector in the information and organizational department of the Semey regional executive committee from 1920 until June 1922.

In 1922, he was forced to move to China, where he faced persecution for participating in the national liberation movement of the Kazakhs. According to memoirs, he was arrested in 1937. The date and place of Marsekov's death are unknown.
