Sabyrbaev Kairat Zekenuly

Kairat Zekenuly Sabyrbaev (28.02.1965) – poet, journalist, local historian, director of the regional historical and local history museum of Semey city.

Kairat Zekenuly was born in 1965 in the village of Ai, located in the Ayagoz district of Abai region.

In 1990, he graduated from the Red Army Agricultural Technical School in Pavlodar and began his career in his native village.

In 1997, he graduated from Shakarim State University of Semey with a degree in "Kazakh Language and Literature" and turned to creative and spiritual pursuits. Having written poetry from a young age and participated in poetry contests, Kairat Zekenuly's poetic works are dedicated to national spirit and the themes of his homeland. His poetry collections "Nartolqyn" (2006), "Abyz of the Region" (2009), and "The Horizon that Dazzles the Eyes" (2014) were published, and his works were included in the anthology "Jyr Marzhan" of Kazakh poetry. In 2017, Kairat Zekenuly participated in the support program for poets and writers of the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Kazakhstan, and within the framework of this program, his book "Dulduldar Dübiri" was published with a circulation of 5,000 copies.

Since 1998, he has worked in journalism, holding responsible positions at the "Semey" television and radio company, and in the newspapers "Semey Tany" and "Ertis Ongiri". In 2009, the newspaper "Ertis Ongiri" became a laureate of the national "Best Publication" nomination. Later, he served as the press secretary of the mayor of Semey city and worked in the city branch of the "Nur Otan" party.

In 2017-2018, he was a leading researcher at the Abai "Zhidebai-Borili" State Historical-Cultural and Literary-Memorial Reserve-Museum. Since 2018, he has been managing the regional historical and local history museum in Semey city. Under his leadership, several museum branches have been opened in the region, and museum activities have developed in a modern direction. The collection has been digitized, multimedia systems have been introduced, and the history of the region is widely promoted through traveling and thematic exhibitions.

Under Kairat Zekenuly's leadership, the museum's work on social media has been revitalized, and systematic information began to be disseminated on Instagram and Facebook platforms. As a result, during the pandemic, the museum's online audience significantly increased, with the number of followers on Facebook rising from 300 to 13,000, which expanded the museum's popularity on an international level.

In 2023, under Kairat Zekenuly's leadership, the 140th anniversary of the regional historical and local history museum in Semey city was celebrated at a high level. In this regard, a scientific conference dedicated to archaeology and ethnography was organized with the participation of regional and international scholars, and a conference collection covering the history of the museum and the archaeological-ethnographic heritage of the Semey region was published. Kairat Sabyrbaev's work is aimed at cataloging the history of his homeland, preserving national heritage, and developing culture and spirituality. He is a person who has elevated local history to a new level and contributed to transforming the museum into a scientific and educational center.

K. Sabyrbaev is a recipient of the medal dedicated to the 20th anniversary of the Independence of the Republic of Kazakhstan, a prizewinner of republican and regional poetry contests, and has been awarded the badge of "Excellence in Culture" (2023).
