Omarbekov Alikhan Azizkhanuly

Omarbekov Alikhan Azizkhanuly (15.12.1954) was born in the Karaspan collective farm, Arys district, Shymkent region (now Turkistan region). From 1962 to 1972, he studied at the Amanzhol secondary school in the "Kozhatogai" state farm in the Kyzylkum district of the same region (now Otyrar district). After graduating from school, he worked as a driver in the village and was drafted into the army in May 1973. After returning from the army in 1975, he studied in the preparatory course at Semey Pedagogical Institute in November. He successfully completed it in August 1976 and was admitted to the first year of the history-pedagogy faculty of the institute, graduating with a red diploma in 1981.

From 1981 to 1984, he served in the Komsomol: initially, he was the secretary of the Komsomol committee of Semey Pedagogical Institute, and in 1983, he was promoted to head of a department in the Semey regional Komsomol committee.

In September 1984, by the decision of the Bureau of the Semey Regional Party Committee, he was sent to the Ministry of Internal Affairs for political service. He served as an instructor in the political department of the internal affairs bodies, deputy head of the district internal affairs department, deputy head of the regional investigation isolation facility, and head of the investigation isolation facility, retiring in September 2003.

Despite retiring, he worked fruitfully in various fields. He also took up writing, publishing over 100 articles, essays, and memoirs on various topics in city, regional, and national newspapers and magazines. His readership grew year by year, and he participated in competitions held by newspapers and magazines, winning prizes and receiving awards. The main characters of his writings are well-known figures in the region and their career paths. He pays great attention to the lives and livelihoods of ordinary villagers. The vast majority of his writings are dedicated to the challenges and interesting aspects of the work of internal affairs bodies, their honest and active employees, and veterans of the field. In the last 4-5 years, he has also worked tirelessly in the field of translation.

He translated 21 volumes of the "Records of the Imperial Russian Geographical Society, West Siberian Section, Semey Branch" from Russian into Kazakh, preserved in the library of the Semey Regional Museum of Local History, which contains rare documents, manuscripts, and books. The majority of the writings and scientific articles in these records are dedicated to the history of our region over the last two centuries.
