Sydykov Erlan Bättashuly (29.02.1956) – Doctor of Historical Sciences, Professor, Academician of the International Academy of Pedagogical Education Sciences. Erlan Bättashuly was born in the city of Semey.

Rector of L.N. Gumilyov Eurasian National University.

He received his secondary education at the A. S. Pushkin School in the village of Karauyl in the Abai district (graduated in 1973). He graduated from the Faculty of History of the S. M. Kirov Kazakh State University in 1978 with a degree in "History" and qualifications as a "Historian, Teacher of History and Social Studies." From September 1981, he studied in the graduate school of KazMU, defended his dissertation in February 1984, and obtained the scientific title of Candidate of Historical Sciences. On October 15, 1999, he defended his doctoral dissertation on the topic "Kazakhstan in the Composition of the Russian Federation (1917 - 1937)." By the decision of the Higher Attestation Commission of the Republic of Kazakhstan, he was awarded the title of Professor on October 25, 2001. In 2003, he was appointed Academician of the International Academy of Pedagogical Education Sciences, and in 2005, he became an Academician of the Abai Kazakh National Pedagogical Academy and the Academy of Natural Sciences of Kazakhstan. He began his career in 1978 in Semey at the Semey Institute of Meat and Dairy Production Technology as a trainee-researcher in the Department of Social Sciences. From September 1984 to January 1996, he held positions as Assistant, Senior Lecturer, Associate Professor, Deputy Dean of the Faculty, Head of the Department, Professor, and Pro-Rector at the Semey Institute of Meat and Dairy Production Technology. In July 1996, he was appointed as an advisor in the Department of State Service and Personnel Work of the Government of the Republic of Kazakhstan. In June 1997, he was appointed Rector of Shakarim State University of Semey. In April 2004, he was appointed Rector of the newly re-established Semey State Pedagogical Institute. From July 2008 to July 26, 2011, he served as Rector of Shakarim State University of Semey. On July 26, 2011, by the decree of the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan, he was appointed Rector of L.N. Gumilyov Eurasian National University.
